CHARTER >
A commitment to
using AI responsibly.
Ten public commitments to govern your use of AI.
WHERE TO BEGIN
Signing the Charter is how you join.
The Charter is a public and ongoing commitment to responsible AI use, made on behalf of your business. Signing the Charter makes you a member of ASSUR.AI. Your membership and current status are then shown on the Trust Register.
WHAT YOU COMMIT TO
The ASSUR.AI Charter
- 01
Statement of Intent
We join ASSUR.AI as a matter of organisational principle. Our commitment to responsible AI is not a compliance exercise or a reputational gesture. We will seek to embed these commitments into how our organisation actually operates, and we will hold ourselves accountable for doing so.
- 02
Governance and Accountability
We will maintain clear and documented accountability for AI use across our organisation. A named individual at senior level will carry responsibility for AI governance. We will ensure that accountability is not diffused to the point of being meaningless, and that our people understand the limits of their authority when deploying or relying on AI systems.
- 03
AI System Lifecycle
We will exercise appropriate care in the selection, deployment, ongoing monitoring, and retirement of AI systems. We will not deploy AI systems whose risks we have not assessed, and we will not continue to operate systems whose risks have materially changed without reassessing them. We will maintain records sufficient to support accountability and audit.
- 04
Transparency
We will be transparent about our use of AI in ways that are meaningful to those affected by it — whether clients, employees, or the public. We will not misrepresent the role of AI in our products, services, or decisions. Where disclosure is required by law or regulation, we will meet that obligation as a minimum; where good practice requires more, we will aspire to it.
- 05
Fairness and Non-Discrimination
We will take active steps to identify and address unfair bias in the AI systems we deploy. We recognise that bias can arise from data, model design, deployment context, and human oversight failure. We will not knowingly deploy systems that treat people unfairly on protected characteristics, and we will monitor for such outcomes on an ongoing basis.
- 06
Data Governance and Privacy
We will handle data used in or produced by AI systems with rigour proportionate to its sensitivity. We will comply with applicable data protection law. We will not use personal data in AI systems for purposes that individuals have not consented to or that would reasonably cause them harm. We will maintain appropriate records of data use in AI contexts.
- 07
Security and Robustness
We will maintain security controls appropriate to the risk profile of our AI systems and the data they process. We will consider the resilience of those systems to adversarial input, manipulation, and misuse. Where AI systems interface with sensitive data or consequential decisions, we will apply heightened care.
- 08
Operational Risk and Human Oversight
We will manage AI-related risk as part of our broader operational risk framework. We will maintain meaningful human oversight of AI systems whose outputs inform consequential decisions — about individuals, significant transactions, or critical operations. We will not substitute AI judgment for human accountability in contexts where such accountability is legally, professionally, or ethically required.
- 09
Legal and Regulatory Compliance
We will meet our legal and regulatory obligations in relation to AI, including applicable sectoral requirements. We will monitor the evolving regulatory landscape and take reasonable steps to maintain compliance as requirements develop. Where legal obligations in any jurisdiction conflict with these commitments, we will comply with the legal obligation and will record and report the conflict to ASSUR.AI.
- 10
Cooperation and Scheme Integrity
We will engage with ASSUR.AI and the ASSUR.AI scheme in good faith. We will not misrepresent our membership status or badge level. We will notify ASSUR.AI promptly of any material change to our organisation that affects our membership status or the accuracy of our register entry. We will support the credibility and integrity of the scheme by upholding these commitments in practice, not merely in declaration.
